For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no-one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV

 

Faith and grace form the heart of the gospel. In Ephesians 2:8-9, Paul reminds us of one of the most important truths of the Christian faith: our salvation is not something we can earn. It is a gift from God that we receive through faith. This truth transforms the way we view God, ourselves and others.

 

By nature, people often try to prove their worth through achievements, good deeds or personal success. We live in a world where rewards are usually earned. Because of this, it can be difficult to understand that God’s love and salvation cannot be bought or deserved. Grace is a gift that God gives us which we could never obtain on our own. Through Jesus Christ, God offers forgiveness, reconciliation and eternal life.

 

Faith is the hand with which we receive this gift. It is not faith in our own abilities or good intentions, but trust in what Christ has already accomplished on the cross. We are not saved because our faith is perfect; we are saved because the one in whom we place our faith is perfect. The power of our faith does not lie in its size, but in the God’s faithfulness.

 

This truth brings great freedom. We do not have to constantly prove that we are good enough for God. In Christ, we are already accepted. His grace removes the burden of self-justification and replaces it with peace. When we realise that salvation is a gift, pride is replaced by humility and gratitude.

 

Faith and grace also give us hope for each day. The God who saved us by grace is the same God who sustains us by grace. We do not need to rely on our own strength. Every day, we can trust in his help, guidance and love.

 

Today, pause and reflect on the wonder of God’s grace. Consider the fact that he loves you, not because you deserve it, but because he is good. Let this truth strengthen your faith and fill your heart with gratitude. The greatest gift you could ever receive has already been given to you in Jesus Christ.

 

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the wonderful gift of grace. Thank you that my salvation does not depend on my achievements, but on what Jesus has done for me. Help me to trust you in faith each day and never take the greatness of your grace for granted. May my life be a testimony to your love and goodness. Amen.
