A month of Proverbs - 10 March 2026

Ruanne van Zyl

Man's goings are of the LORD; How can a man then understand his own way?  Proverbs 20:24, KJV

There are times in life when we look back and realise things turned out very differently from what we had planned. This verse acknowledges the reality that God is ultimately the One who guides our steps, even when we don’t understand everything.

We like clarity. In our human nature, we want to know where we’re going, how long it will take, and what the outcome will be. But faith works differently. It asks us to trust God with the next step, even when we can’t see the whole road.

When things change unexpectedly, it’s easy to ask, “Why, Lord?” This verse reminds us that our limited perspective cannot see God’s greater plan. What seems senseless today may become part of a greater testimony of his faithfulness tomorrow.

Accepting that God leads our steps cultivates a certain humility in us. We acknowledge that we are not in control of everything – and that is freeing. The pressure to figure out every detail becomes lighter when we know that the Lord walks with us and goes before us.

Our calling is not to understand everything, but to remain faithful in each step God places before us. One step at a time, trusting that he knows where he is leading us.

Prayer: Lord, even when I don’t understand my path, I choose to trust you. Guide my steps and help me remain faithful where you have placed me today. Amen.
