A month of Proverbs - 9 March 2026

There are many devices in a man's heart; Nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. Proverbs 19:21, KJV
We all make plans. We dream about the future, set goals, and try to direct our lives according to what makes sense to us. There is nothing wrong with this – after all, God has given us the ability to think and plan. Yet this verse brings an important balance to the fore, as ultimately, it is God’s purpose that stands.
Sometimes things work out exactly as we hoped. Other times, plans fall apart, leaving us disappointed and/or confused. In such moments, it can feel like everything is out of control. This verse reminds us that God is not surprised by changes or setbacks in our lives. He sees the bigger picture that we cannot see.
God’s “purpose” refers to his wisdom and plan for our lives. Even when our paths take unexpected turns, he can use it to shape us and bring us closer to his perfect design. What seems like a delay or detour may actually be protection or preparation.
This truth invites us into rest. We do not need to cling desperately to every plan. We can work diligently while remaining open to God’s guidance. True peace begins with the prayer, “Lord, my plans are in your hands. Lead me according to your will.”
Prayer: Lord, you see what I cannot see. Help me to trust your purpose when my plans change. Guide me with your wisdom and give me peace in your perfect will. Amen.
