The name of the LORD is a strong tower: The righteous runneth into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10, KJV
In biblical times, a strong tower was a place of protection from enemies. People would run to it to find safety from danger. This image helps us understand what God’s name is for us – not just a title, but his character, power, and presence.
When life pressures us, our first instinct is often to seek solutions in people, money, or plans. These things have their place, but they are not our ultimate security. True safety is found when we run to God. To run to his name means to trust him for protection, guidance, and peace – even when our circumstances have not yet changed.
The verse says the righteous run his name, implying urgency and purpose. We do not wait until everything falls apart before we pray; we make God our first response. Prayer is not a last resort, but a safe refuge.
God does not promise that we will never face problems, but he promises his presence in the midst of them. In him, we find emotional, spiritual, and even physical strength to keep moving forward. When fear wants to overwhelm us, this verse reminds us where to run to.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you are my safe place. Help me to run to you first when I feel afraid or overwhelmed. Let me find rest in your strong and faithful name. Amen.
