God’s faithfulness and greatness - 25 February 2025

For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. Psalm 33:4-5, NIV
Psalm 33 is a psalm of praise that emphasises the greatness, faithfulness and power of God. It invites us to admire anew the wonder of his creation and recognise his hand in our lives. It is not just a song about the world around us, but also about God’s character – his truth, righteousness and love.
The psalm reminds us that everything God says is trustworthy. His word is powerful and righteous. When the world is uncertain, we can find our anchor in his truth. What God promises will come to pass. It is an invitation to trust him wholeheartedly – in good and difficult times.
Furthermore, the psalm draws our attention to the earth, which is filled with the goodness of the Lord. When we look around us, we see the evidence of his handiwork: the sky, the mountains, the sea – all testify to his creativity and care. Even when things feel chaotic or meaningless to us, these verses remind us that God is not only the Creator, but also the One who holds everything in his hand.
Psalm 33 also indicates that the Lord is actively involved with his people. “The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear [serve] him” (Psalm 33:18). It means that God sees and understands you. He is not just watching from a distance – he is now involved in your life. He is there with his unfailing love and faithfulness in your joys and sorrows.
This psalm encourages us to praise God, regardless of our circumstances. We praise not only because everything is right in our lives, but also because we trust in a God who is always good.
Prayer: Lord, I praise you for your greatness and goodness. Help me to trust in your truth and faithfulness, and to acknowledge your love and grace every day of my life. I place my hope in you. Amen
