Trust in the Lord as your light and salvation - 24 February 2025

The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1, NIV
Psalm 27 is one of David’s beautiful hymns, full of faith and hope in God, even in the face of danger. It invites us to hold on to God as our light, salvation and refuge. In this psalm, we find powerful truths about trusting, waiting and resting in the Lord.
In verse 1, we see David’s fearless confidence. He declares that God is his light – the one who dispels darkness and provides guidance. Moreover, God is his deliverance – the one who saves him from his enemies and circumstances. These words remind us that we have our refuge and security in God, no matter what we face.
In the verses that follow, David describes his firm confidence, even when enemies threaten him: “Even if a whole army surrounds me, I will not be afraid; even if enemies attack me, I will still trust God” (Psalm 27:3, GNT). This faith is rooted in David’s relationship with God – his focus is not on his circumstances, but on his Saviour.
David’s greatest desire is not just security or victory over his enemies, but also fellowship with God. He says, “One thing I ask from the Lord … that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life” (Psalm 27:4). This verse shows us where the source of true peace and fulfilment is found – in God’s presence.
Psalm 27 ends with a command and a promise: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:14). To wait means to keep trusting in faith, even when answers come slowly. We know that God is faithful and will act according to his time.
Prayer: Lord, you are my light, my salvation and my refuge. Help me trust in you, even in the midst of fear. Please fill me with the desire to seek your presence, and wait for your time and will. Thank you that I have complete security in you. Amen
