Even from before my birth God liked me
Danny Fourie
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13
There was an overseas TV programme, titled something like "Love at first sight". Three girls sat opposite three guys and after different rounds of questions, they all at the end of the programme had to make a choice for someone of the opposite sex. The choice could not be changed. The two who have chosen each other, could go on a sponsored holiday. Those who remained, reproached themselves for participating in the programme!
Suppose you are one of the participants. Across from you are three guys. From the questions it seems that two of them are rather selfish people, they only have eyes for themselves and what is of interest to them. The other man however is that dream man – attractive, intelligent, has an engaging personality, and someone who cares for others.
Unlike the TV show, the guys have to make their choice first. As expected the two self-centred guys do not pick you. But the dream man chooses you. He said that he knew at first glance that he was going to choose you. His decision stands firm, he wants to go on holiday with you, even if he has to pay himself! There is not a single moment of doubt in his mind.
And you? Will it be necessary for you to doubt one second? Of course not! The choice is as easy as can be. Of course you choose the dream man as anyone before you would have done. You would be crazy choosing one of the other men.
Is it not just as reasonable for you and I to choose God? He is truly the only One who really cares about us. Even before we existed, he stuck to his choice. He chose you and me. Finally each one of us chooses the one we prefer. There is however only one Person who always chooses us: God.
A better choice as to choose him, we can therefore not make.
Prayer: Thank you Father that you chose me even before I began with my life. Thank you that you are certain of your choice, even though I disappoint you. Help me to devote my life to you. Amen.
