Why does not everyone like God?
Danny Fourie
“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Matthew 11:27
But how is it that the love of God makes such an impression upon my mind, while others for the very reason do not want to know anything about God? The fact that millions of people turned their backs on God, could probably mean that it is not so obvious to make a choice for God. Is that so? This is a difficult question to which I do not have an answer yet.
I do think that a lot of people who wants nothing to do with God, do not really know him. They cannot like God, because for them, God is not love. For many people God is a strict man who sends those who do not listen to him to perdition. For them God is someone with whom you cannot laugh. He is a God who is not part of the enjoyment of life. For them God is ... And so one can add to the list.
Who is God to you? Each of us has created an image of God in our minds. A God that we subsequently turn down, because he does not suit us.
Who is God really? Look only to who Jesus was. Those who met Jesus, met the Father. How often did Jesus made people sick, killed them, hated them, renounced them? How often did he only serve his own interest? Never! Jesus healed people, raised them from the dead, told the truth and chose to be on our side. Jesus did not die on the cross on his own behalf. He entered death for the sake of you and me. This is Jesus. This is God.
Say but no to such a God? Say you do not like such a God?
Prayer: Father, let me look with new eyes to Jesus – and to see in him how much you love me. You are a good and loving God. Amen
