Psalm 136 begins with a simple yet powerful call: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.” This truth forms the foundation of a thankful life. We do not thank God only for what he does; we thank him for who he is. His goodness and lovingkindness are unchanging, regardless of what we may experience in life.

 

Throughout Psalm 136, the phrase “His love endures for ever.” is repeated again and again. It is as if the psalmist wants to ensure that no one misses this vital truth. God’s love is not temporary or unpredictable. It does not depend on our performance, our feelings, or our circumstances. His love remains constant through every season of life. When we truly understand this, we discover a firm and lasting reason to be grateful.

 

There are days when gratitude comes easily. When prayers are answered, when our health is strong, when loved ones are near and when life unfolds according to our plans, praising God feels natural. We recognise God’s hand in ordinary moments and discover joy in his continual care. Gratitude softens our hearts, strengthens our faith, and deepens our relationship with God.

 

Today, take time to reflect on God’s goodness. Consider the many ways he has loved you, protected you, guided you and provided for you. Let the truth of his everlasting love fill your heart with praise. No matter what today may bring, this truth remains unshaken: The Lord is good, and his love endures forever.

 

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that you are good and that your lovingkindness never ends. Thank you for your faithfulness in every season of my life. Help me to keep my focus on your goodness, even when I walk through difficult times. Fill my heart with sincere gratitude and teach me to live each day in the light of your everlasting love.
