A heart full of joy - 2 July 2026

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever. Psalm 107:1, NIV
Gratitude is one of the most beautiful qualities a believer can cultivate. It is more than a feeling that arises when life is going well; it is a deliberate choice to recognise God’s goodness regardless of our circumstances. The psalmist reminds us that we should praise the Lord because he is good and because his lovingkindness never comes to an end. This truth does not change when we walk through difficult seasons. God remains the same – faithful, loving and full of grace.
We live in a world that often encourages us to focus on what we do not have. Social media, comparisons with others and the pressures of daily life can make us more aware of our shortcomings than our blessings. However, when we intentionally practice gratitude, we begin to see God’s hand at work in new ways. We realise that every breath we take, every new day we are given, and every opportunity we receive is a gift from him.
Gratitude also transforms the way we face challenges. It does not mean ignoring problems or pretending that pain does not exist. Rather, it means choosing to trust God in the midst of the storm. When we remember what God has done in the past, our faith is strengthened for the future. We are reminded that the same God who carried us through previous difficult seasons is the one who is carrying us today and will continue to carry us tomorrow.
A grateful heart produces joy. It helps us notice the good that already exists around us. It strengthens our relationships, deepens our worship and fills our hearts with peace. The more we thank God for his blessings, the more aware we become of his presence in our everyday lives.
Today, take a few moments to be still before the Lord. Think of three things that you can thank him for. Perhaps it is your family, your health, the support of a friend or simply the assurance that God loves you. Allow gratitude to fill your heart and redirect your focus to the source of every good and perfect gift.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your unfailing love and faithfulness. Thank you for every blessing, both great and small, that you have placed in my life. Help me not to focus on what I lack, but on your goodness and provision. Create in me a grateful heart, and teach me to walk each day with joy, peace and confidence in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
