The end of time - 30 June 2026
Ben Fourie
You are going to hear the noise of battles close by and the news of battles far away; but do not be troubled. Such things must happen, but they do not mean that the end has come. Matthew 24:6, GNT
Our world is currently very upside down. Since the war with Iran started earlier this year, things have changed. With television, YouTube and other digital services, the words of Jesus in the verse above are very real.
The cost of fuel is prohibitive, food is getting more expensive and our savings are losing value. It can really become alarming. Fortunately, Jesus warned us about this. It is not the first time that things like this have happened. I remember my parents telling me about the Second World War when fuel was rationed and you could only buy it with special coupons.
When we look at this upside-down world, it is understandable that we may become worried about what the future holds for us, but Jesus said: “do not be troubled”. We have seen this past month that God is still with us, there is still hope for us, he hears us when we call, he will never forsake us, we are not alone.
Fortunately, the things that are happening are all indicators of what is known as the end times. This will be the time, as the Bible tells us in Revelation 21:4-5, when God will make all things new. He will wipe away tears and there will never again be death, grief, crying or pain. The old things will disappear. When this will happen, we do not know. It may be next week or it may be hundreds or even thousands of years from now, but what we do know is that it definitely will happen.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you that when we are but little children who are afraid of the dark world we sometimes encounter, you will hold us by the hand. Amen.
