Grateful for the certainty of His return - 30 April 2026

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:2-3, NIV
He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new!' Then he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.' Revelation 21:5, NIV
The story of the Bible does not end with our human brokenness – it ends with hope.
When we look at the world, it can sometimes feel like things are falling more and more into chaos and disarray. Wars, disease, injustice, and suffering remind us daily that creation is still broken. Sometimes we wonder: Where is all of this headed?
But the gospel gives us a firm certainty: Jesus is coming again!
In John 14, Jesus speaks to his disciples the evening before his crucifixion. Their hearts were troubled and full of uncertainty. And at that moment, he gave them a promise that he was going to prepare a place for them, and that he would return to bring them to himself.
The return of Christ means that this world’s story does not end in chaos or meaninglessness. God has a purpose for his creation, and he will bring it to completion. Everything broken by sin will be restored.
Revelation 21 describes this wonderful future: God will make everything new. There will be a new heaven and a new earth. Tears, pain and death will no longer have the final word. God himself will dwell with his people.
This hope changes how we live today. We do not live for the moment alone. We know that God’s kingdom will ultimately come in full. Therefore, we can persevere even when life is hard. Our work in the Lord is not in vain.
The return of Christ also reminds us that our future is secure. Our ultimate destination is not just a place – it is a person. Jesus says, “I will come back and take you to be with me.” Our greatest hope is to be with him eternally.
What a reason for gratitude! History is not moving toward a dark ending, but toward God’s new creation. The Lord who began everything will also bring it to completion.
And one day, we will see it with our own eyes: he makes all things new.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the promise that you will come again. Thank you that the future is in your hands and that you will make everything new. Help me to live today with hope and faithfulness as I look forward to the day that I will finally be with you. Amen.
