He blesses people who love what the Lord says in his laws and think about God's words every day and night. People like that are like a tree that grows next to a stream of water, and which gives fruit at the right time and always has green leaves. They succeed in everything they do. I have often written about the broken world in which we live. Life is not always easy for Christians either; in fact, we are currently experiencing a time filled with criticism directed at Christians and the church in general. Many of us are often surrounded by people who do not share our beliefs.

 

In Psalm 1, we read that a person who loves the Lord and meditates on God's Word is like a tree planted beside a stream, bearing fruit at the right time. Such a person is compared to a tree with lush green leaves.

 

The words of this Psalm make me reflect on our role as Christians in society and the significant impact we can have. 

 

Consider the relief a large, shady tree provides on a hot summer day, as well as the shelter it offers when it rains.

 

No matter where you are, you can be a tree that provides shade – without making any big announcements or causing a fuss.

 

In my line of work, there is a saying: “Show, don’t tell.” I believe this principle also applies to how we should live as Christians. Our actions and way of life should reflect who we are, rather than just our words; this means we should actively demonstrate God’s love and express it in practical ways.

 

This connects beautifully with the image of a tree with green leaves. Show others that you are like a green tree – someone who brings calm, peace and shelter. Be a source of safety and love. Be one of God’s trees, offering protection wherever you are.

 

Prayer: Lord, help me to focus on your Word and will, so that I may become a green tree providing shade and shelter where it is needed most. Amen.
