DAY 12: GOD WANTS TO HELP US - 16 February 2021
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
About two weeks ago, Jockey Mans from Upington saw Yodré, an asthma sufferer, struggling to breath. She had to be rushed to hospital.
Jockey: “Shortness of breath is something that makes me nervous. Our own daughter suffered brain damage 30 years ago due to a lack of oxygen. The moment I saw Yodré gasping for air, I knew we had to get her to the hospital as soon as possible. None of her asthma pumps wanted to bring relief.
“Because Yodré’s father, who is in the army, is deployed to another town, she stays with us about 17km outside Upington. My wife helped her into the vehicle and Yodré and I immediately left for town. On the way there, I prayed desperately, ‘Father, I am in distress. Please send a traffic officer who can help me through the traffic. I need to get this child to the hospital as soon as possible.’
"To get to the Military Hospital, we had to go through Upington. There are a lot of traffic lights. The alternative was to drive around the town, but it is an industrial area with many large trucks. I did not know if she would make it if there was a delay on our route.
"In the distance, I saw something that looked like a traffic officer's blue light on their car. As I approach them, I saw four officers! The moment they saw Yodré, they knew we had problems. I informed them that I needed their help and immediately left. They overtook me from behind and drove past me. Because they did not have a siren in the vehicle, the traffic officer on the passenger side hung out of the window to regulate traffic, while the driver regulated the oncoming traffic and repeatedly showed me when I could pass.
"With their help, we were able to get Yodré to hospital just in time. My heart is filled with gratitude as I look back at the realization that God was truly present. I asked for one traffic officer; He gave me four! All glory goes to Him!”
Jockey is right. God knows the future. He has good things for us in store. In Jeremiah 29:11 we read: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” In Nahum 1:7 it is written: “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him. . .”And in Psalm 86:5 we read: “You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.”
Did God see Jockey and Yodré rushing to town? Did He hear Jockey's desperate prayer? Was it "coincidence" that the traffic officers were stationed at that point that morning? Or was it perhaps a way God demonstrated His omnipresence that morning?
God still hears every prayer prayed in faith. Let us thank Him that He never slumbers or sleeps. God bless.
Father God, thank You for loving me and caring for us. Please help me today (name your challenge). Also help me to keep my eyes open for Your goodness around me. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
