Day 20: If doubt we want to overcome - 28 November 2019
Benescke Janse van Rensburg
Yesterday I read a shocking status on social media. The woman writes about robbers that entered their home and killed her husband. They also killed her husband’s favorite dog who tried to protect him from the robbers. She ends her heartbreaking entry with one word: "Why?!!!"
As I read this heartbreaking entry, I realized that there might be a number of other people who might feel like this looking back at 2019. Perhaps this year was also one that changed your life forever. You don't understand why your marriage ended in a divorce, while you had so much hope and faith for restoration? Why did your loved one die if you had so much faith for his or her healing? You do not understand why you are still unemployed, still alone, still not pregnant. Maybe you too have this one question in your heart: "Why?!!!"
Although we might not have all the answers, we serve the One that does. In Isaiah 55: 8-9 God says: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways . . . As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Also in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 we are reminded of who He is: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.”
God never causes bad things in our lives. He is a good God. We live in a broken world where, because the enemy uses our free will to cause us to at times do things to one another that hurt and even ruin lives. However, this is not the end. God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. He is also able to change and restore where the enemy has stolen from us. God still silences storms and is able to shine His light in our dark situations when we allow Him to do so. God bless.
Father God, thank you for quieting the storm within me. Please shine Your light into my dark situation and come and heal my heart where needed. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
