God looks us up - 5 November 2014
Danny Fourie
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
Do you know the feeling of being totally in love? During the day you have butterflies in your stomach, at night you cannot sleep and when you do fall asleep you dream all night long of her. In the beginning you may have a problem: You do not know if she knows you are in love with her. You are unsure whether she is in love with you. What now?
There are some timeless tips: Write a letter, call or take a bunch of flowers. But what happens if she does not get the letter, you cannot reach her on her phone and the flowers never reach her? A few weeks later she may hear that you were so besotted with her. And you know what she would have said then? "Oh, I was not aware of it. Had he but wrote or called or came to me!”
Here we have a similarity with God. God loves you. He wants a relationship with you. So God said, “Let me write.” He wrote quite a thick Bible in which he says that he would like to be your friend. But we are more interested in other literature. Then God thought and said, “Let me call.” Every Sunday somewhere there is a preacher who proclaims God, talks about him. But your mind wanders and you do not hear God’s voice.
Then God decided to rather come personally. Not with a bunch of roses, but through his Son Jesus Christ. From his side God does everything. He writes, calls and comes himself. I hope you read his letter and meditate on it. And when he calls, that you prayerfully talk back. And that you open the door of your life to him in order for a good relationship to grow between the two of you.
Prayer: Thank you Father that you came looking for us, for me too. Help me to experience you daily and to open my life to you. Amen.
