God proves God self - 4 November 2014
Danny Fourie
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son… Hebrews 1:1-2a
With the advent of summer ants become more active. Suddenly, in my house at different places ants started walking in long queues, also in the kitchen cupboard where I keep my food. I put everything I could in plastic containers, but the ants did not disappear. At last when I had enough, I unpacked and washed the cupboard, and sprayed all around the doors of the cupboard. I did not like to do that, but how do I tell the ants that they are not welcome in my cupboard?
You wish you could work in a different way with the ants. If only you could tell them that you want to be their friend and that you would like to help them. You will wait a long time until an ant look up at you and go tell the others that he can prove that you exist. It will never happen. If the ants will not come to you, you will have to go to them. You will have to become an ant and then you can relay your existence and message in their language.
This is exactly what God did with us humans. God himself became a man, and made himself known to us. The learned word is “manifest”. God manifested, revealed him.
We therefore do not prove God to exist. God proved himself – in nature, in the Bible and especially in Jesus Christ. When one looks carefully at Jesus, you can see who God is. As we may know a painter through his paintings, so we get to know God through Jesus Christ (John 14:9).
Prayer: Thank you Lord God that you became human, like one of us, in order for us to experience your existence and message. Amen.
