The man who lives in relationship with God, also lives in relationship with himself. He knows himself. Every day, he is aware of both his physical and spiritual needs. He realises that God is concerned about his total manhood.

He realises that he is created in the image of God.

So God created human beings, making them to be like himself. He created them male and female. Genesis 1:27

He knows that he bears the image of God, and so he strives to demonstrate this image through the way he lives. That’s why the words of Paul to the Colossians are so important to him.

At one time you yourselves used to live according to such desires, when your life was dominated by them. But now you must get rid of all these things: anger, passion, and hateful feelings. No insults or obscene talk must ever come from your lips. Do not lie to one another, for you have taken off the old self with its habits and have put on the new self. This is the new being which God, its Creator, is constantly renewing in his own image, in order to bring you to a full knowledge of himself. Colossians 3:7-10

He realises that his body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and uses it to the glory of God. That’s why he looks after his body.

Avoid immorality. Any other sin a man commits does not affect his body; but the man who is guilty of sexual immorality sins against his own body. Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God’s glory.1 Corinthians 6:18-20

He knows that he is special to God and therefore he places his trust in God.

Israel, the Lord who created you says,

“Do not be afraid—I will save you.

I have called you by name—you are mine.   Isaiah 43:1

Like our faithful man, do you realise that you have been created in the image of God and do you strive to reflect this in your life? Do you take care of your body and know that you are special to God? Can you say: I am he?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that you know me, that you saved me, and that I belong to you. Help me to live every day as an image bearer of God. Amen
