So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

~ Galatians 5:16, 25

Being in step with God means you have to be willing to let the Holy Spirit take control of your life. This is the only way you will succeed in not giving in to your sinful nature. Those who live by the Spirit, allow the Spirit to guide them daily; they hear and obey the voice of the Spirit in their lives. Coenie Burger writes that to live by the Spirit is to live on the edge of a miracle.

Does the Holy Spirit determine your lifestyle? There is a very easy test to find the answer to this. If this is true of your lifestyle, the fruit of the Spirit will be noticed in your life. Paul gives the Galatian church a list of these fruits in Galatians 5:22-23. Read this list attentively and then ask yourself if God’s love, joy and peace can be seen in your life: Do you treat all people in a patient, friendly, kind, faithful, humble and self-controlled way?

If you are short of some of the fruits in your life ask God to give you these qualities, so that everyone will see that your life is under the Holy Spirit’s management.

Holy Spirit, I want to place my whole life under Your management. Show me which qualities are still lacking in my life. Amen
