My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning ... O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.

~ Psalm 130:6-7 niv

When you are waiting on the Lord and nothing happens, it can make you anxious and tense. In Psalm 130 and 131, the psalmist says that he is prepared to wait on God, and this makes him peaceful. We tend to become impatient if we have to wait. Then we wonder if God is ever going to answer. It would be good to follow the prophet Zephaniah’s advice: “Stand in silence in the presence of the Sovereign Lord” (Zeph. 1:7). Quiet times (both the times when we become silent before the Lord and the times when God keeps silent) are there especially so that we can make time to wait on God.

One needs patience to wait – that one quality that I have a problem with myself. Patience never comes of its own accord, but we can learn to be more patient; to be willing to wait. While we wait, God is busy with us. He brings us in pace with Him. During the period we are waiting, He prepares us for what He has in mind for us – and God always plans something positive for His children. He strengthens our faith; He gets our attention and sifts our motives. Decide now to become silent more often in future, and to wait on God.

Lord, I am sorry that I am always in a hurry and I don’t want to wait. Please give me more patience and make me willing to wait on You in silence. Amen
