Faith and Love - 16 October 2013

If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I knew all the mysteries of the future and knew everything about everything, but didn’t love others, what good would I be? And if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, without love I would be no good to anybody.
~ 1 Corinthians 13:2
If you believe, anything is possible for you, even to move mountains, Jesus taught His disciples (see Matt. 21:21). We have already established that to believe in God, means that you can be sure of what you hope for and certain of what you can’t see. “There are three things that will endure – faith, hope and love – and the greatest of these is love,” writes Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:13. It is your love for others that gives your faith dimension and character.
Other than faith, love will last forever. One day, in God’s new world, faith will not be necessary anymore, because everything you believed in will then become reality. But love will always be there. It will reach a deeper dimension when you see God in all His glory the first time; when you will know Him completely and love Him like He should be loved.
Demonstrate your faith through your love for others. Get involved in your congregation’s charity drives and help people who have less than you. It will strengthen your faith and let it grow.
Lord, show me how and where I can supplement my faith with love for others, so that it will grow stronger and stronger. Amen
