To be a blessing to others
Hennie Symington
May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice! Philippians 4:4-5
I have a friend who blows through my life like a fresh breeze to make all my pessimistic thoughts disappear like clouds before the sun. She is one of those people who, with her spontaneous love for others, builds bridges and breaks down prejudice wherever she goes. She doesn’t talk religion; she practises it.
In a small town with a large percentage of needy people she gets into her car and drives through the townships looking for good voices for her choir. And as she searches for voices, she makes friends.
On her way she picks up an old man selling calabashes she decides she must have for musical instruments, and in the process she makes a friend of a friendless fugitive to our land without worrying about her own comfort.
Special gifts?
She must be blessed with special gifts, we believe, while conveniently forgetting that God has equipped each and every one of us through his Spirit to do his will. So get off your knees when you’re through praying, and just do God’s work.
Ps. The secret of her success? She has learned to listen to each of these forgotten people and to see them as God’s creatures too.
God bless M from W!
Prayer for today
Lord, I am ashamed of how little I do to serve others with the love of Christ. Thank you for sending people to remind me of my duties as a citizen of you kingdom.
