A journey of faith and worship
Hennie Symington

Scripture

there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Matthew 2:2 (KJV)

The wise men - we do not know whether they were kings, astronomers or astrologists – witnessed an extraordinary phenomenon - an unusually bright and beautiful star. They did their research and set out in search of this strange heavenly body - much like Abraham, who many generations before, followed the voice of an unknown and invisible God.

Where Abrahams’ vision led his people to the promised land, their vision led to them to Bethlehem. They had seen the star and believed that the Child existed and were willing to risk everything to seek a King.

It was a long and trying journey of almost 2500 kilometers with no roads leading them there. But they were not deterred because they had a vision. Where there is vision, people are inspired to move forward. Abraham proved this and the wise men confirmed it. And when they found the child they worshipped him.

Perhaps you too have a vision but keep it under wraps  and do nothing to turn it into reality. Follow the wise men's example. They hitched their vision to a star and discovered God. Perhaps we can meditate on the following in anticipation of Christmas:

Hurry, oh hurry now to Bethlehem and rejoice

                        Announce with trembling voice:

The birth of Love is at hand

Proclaim the heavenly news in every land

                        Hurry, hurry now to Bethlehem.
Prayer
God, sometimes reality gets me down. Give me a vision in my heart and the wisdom to follow the Star that gives life. Amen
