Title:  Women

Francois Sieberhagen

How hard it is to find a capable wife! She is worth far more than jewels!  Proverbs 31:10

Tomorrow is Women’s Day.  I have often wondered if such a day is really necessary.  Isn’t every day supposed to be Women’s Day?

If I should think of all the women who have crossed my path through the years I am astonished about how many capable women there really are.  The kind of women that King Lemuel’s mother talked about.  The type of women she wished to see beside her son.

We are all well aware of that classic photograph that is often taken of a husband and his wife.  This photo is often taken at weddings or when someone requests a formal photo.  The husband sits on the chair and the wife stands behind him with her hands lovingly resting on his shoulders, so dignified and formal.

We could easily say it is old fashioned and classic.  Times have changed.  These days we are partners.  No one is more important than the other.  That is true.  But still the woman plays an important role.

As her husband’s wife she is the one who supports him, even if he is in a lesser position than her at work.  She is the mother of her children and that she will remain for ever, no matter her circumstances.  She cares and creates a safe home for her family, she consoles when consolation is needed.  She will encourage when encouragement is needed.  She does all of this no matter her position at work or at home.  She is a woman, with special gifts and talents that men do not have.

Jannie du Toit and Christa Steyn composed this piece from Proverbs for the CD Deel die Woord.  Every time I read this piece and I listen to the music I stand in awe of how the music touches on the role of the capable woman.

Today I want to say to all the capable women, you are valuable in the kingdom of God here on earth.  Thank you for what you do for and mean to your husbands, children and friends.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for touching my life through capable women.  Amen.
