Thankful for hope that does not disappoint - 24 April 2026

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:5, NIV
The world talks a lot about hope, but often it’s just wishful thinking. People say, “I hope things get better,” or “I hope it all works out.” But that kind of hope can easily fail. Circumstances change. Health declines. Plans fall apart.
The Bible, however, speaks of a different kind of hope – a hope that does not disappoint.
This hope is not built on our circumstances, but on God’s love. Paul writes in Romans 5 that believers can endure even through hardship. Trials produce perseverance, perseverance develops tested character, and character produces hope. God even uses difficult times to deepen our faith.
But this hope is not rooted in our own strength or endurance – it rests in God himself. Paul says, “God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.” Our hope is anchored in the unchanging certainty that God loves us – a love he demonstrated through Jesus Christ.
When we look to the cross, we see how deep God’s love really runs. Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Our hope is not a vague feeling; it is a firm anchor. If God was willing to give his only Son for us, he will not abandon us in the storms of life.
This hope carries us through difficult days and seasons. When things feel uncertain, we remember: God’s love has not changed. When we feel discouraged, the Holy Spirit reminds us that we belong to God.
This does not mean life is always easy. Christians still experience pain, loss, and disappointment. But our hope endures because it is rooted in God’s faithful love. And because God is faithful, this hope will not let us down.
So today, we can be thankful. Thankful that our hope is not just in better circumstances, but in God himself – a hope that rests in his love, his promises, and his eternal faithfulness. Even when everything around us is unsteady, this truth stands: God loves us, and he will complete his work in us.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the hope we find in you – a hope that does not disappoint. Thank you for pouring your love into my heart through the Holy Spirit. Help me hold onto this hope, even in difficult times. May my life testify to the certainty that I belong to you every day. Amen.
