Anchored in Him: Stay the course - 12 February 2026

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14, NIV
Homing pigeons have a remarkable ability to find their way home. Even when released far from where they belong, they rely on the earth’s magnetic fields, the sun, and other sensory cues to guide them back – almost as if they possess a built-in GPS. How fascinating.
Yet, despite this innate ability, there are factors that can hinder a successful return. Experts note that distance, inexperience, and distractions can cause pigeons to lose their way. The farther they travel, the more vulnerable they become – facing fatigue, predators, and obstacles that disorient them, especially if they have not been properly trained.
As children of God, we must remember that this world is not our true home. Our home is heavenward, with Christ. While we inhabit the earth, we too must stay the course, remaining mindful of anything that may deter us from our eternal destination.
The things of this world will always leave us unfulfilled – because this is not home.
Do not store up riches on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19) Store up treasures in heaven – that’s where home is. Stay the course.
Do not conform to the patterns of this world in pursuit of belonging – we are not of this world (Romans 12:2). You are called to a heavenly purpose. That’s where home is. Stay the course.
Do not grow weary in doing what God has called you to. He waits to affirm you as his good and faithful servant. (Galatians 6:9; Matthew 25:21) Stay the course.
Do not fall for the lies of the enemy, who prowls like a predator. (1 Peter 5:8) God has already declared you more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37) and promised that you will reign with him. (Ephesians 2:6) Stay the course.
We have been hand-picked by God to advance his Kingdom on earth – an assignment of tremendous honour. But while we are here, we must never lose sight of the splendour of heaven that awaits us.
If you ask me, this world can keep everything it has to offer – nothing compares. I will keep my GPS fixed on the ultimate destination and stay the course. Literal heaven awaits – what a prize.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me keep my eyes fixed on you, so that the things of this world do not distract me from journeying with you. Amen.
