Be different: Dependent - 21 January 2026
Andrea Sieberhagen
"Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! Matthew 5:3, GNT
We live in a world where independence is highly valued. To be described as an independent person is a great compliment. To survive, you must stand on your own two feet. You must make your own decisions and not be too dependent on those around you, you must be strong.
There is merit in functioning like this, but in our spiritual lives, the opposite is required: complete dependence on God.
We must be deeply aware that we cannot face life independently of God. We are expected to live every day in dependence on him.
The secret is to place each new day in our Heavenly Father’s hands the moment we open our eyes. Before we even start the day, we must place everything that lies ahead into his hands. This means surrendering control – the day no longer belongs to us.
This is often difficult, because we love being in control. We believe we must take responsibility for every situation that crosses our path.
It takes willpower to surrender completely.
Walk out your door this morning knowing: God is in control. Face the day dependent on him who knows better than you know yourself.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, take control of my day. I declare that I am completely dependent on you. Amen
