Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place. Psalm 51:6, NIV

When reading the Bible and listening to God’s Spirit, we should understand that He also wants to re-form and guide us through it.

Think about it – we do it because we need and want his guidance and instructions. The Word repeatedly says that God, from his side, wants to renew our collective spirits, thoughts and deeds and to rule over and through us in his kingdom.

“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.” (Jeremiah 31:33) “For the word of God ... judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)

Our thoughts, sometimes turbulent, must come to rest before God. In Psalm 51:6, David says, “Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place." Silence and meditation on his Word are very essential in this. When the psalmists allowed God’s Word to work in them (Psalm 1:1-3; 119:55-56), heeded it and found joy (Psalm 1:2; 119:15-16, 55-56), they could testify that it brought the Lord’s blessing. (Psalm 1:2; 37:3-5)

Therefore, with a new focus, David was also able to say, “… I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself ... I am content. (Psalm 131:1a-2) For the Lord’s thoughts are still with us – “How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! ... when I awake, I am still with you.” (Psalm 139:17-18)

Prayer: Lord, please continue to work with me all the time and help me to hear, understand and obey. Amen.
