Day 4: WHAT DO YOU SOW? - 4 February 2021
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
If our lives can be compared to a garden where good seeds sown brings forth flowers while weeds come forth due to evil deeds; what does your “garden” look like today?
An Austrian, Eric Schwan, who died on Christmas Day, bequeathed nearly R30 million to the French town of LeChambon-sur-Lignon in his will. He did this because the inhabitants offered shelter for 2 years to him and his family during the Second World War.
Although few (if any) of the inhabitants of that time are still alive in the town today, their offspring are reaping the benefits of their ancestors’ good deed.
The same is true for our lives. We are not good to others to get something back, yet it always produces a blessing – either in our own lives or those of our children. Likewise, if we (or your ancestors) harmed people, but we are unwilling to repent of that, it may come back to haunt us. Why? Because God sees everything and His word stands firm.
In Galatians 6: 7,9 we read: “God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. . . Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” In Proverbs 19:17 we are reminded that God sees when we are good to others: “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” And in Matthew 6:6 we read: “ . . . your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Let us ask God to help us identify weeds in our lives that might cause a blockage in our relationship with him. Let us also be bold enough to get rid of the weeds while looking for opportunities to sow good seed. Good seed always has a benefit – even if only your offspring will experience it! God bless.
Father God, thank you that You never change. Please help me to identify any weeds in my life and help me to get rid of it. Also, lead me through your Holy Spirit to see opportunities to sow good seed. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
