DAY 2: POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST - 2 February 2021
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
On Friday a week ago, the unthinkable happened to Shamonei Schoeman of Benoni and her family. An anxious cry from the domestic worker brought her to the pool where her 1-year-old daughter, Shiané floated on top of the pool's water.
Shamonei: “We went to visit my mother in Brakpan on Friday morning. The pool’s cover was up, but due to the heavy rain earlier it started to come loose on one side. Shiané played around us, but at one point she must have opened the locked security gate and went outside.
“The domestic worker’s hysterical cry made me think that the dogs attacked her, so I immediately ran out. Shocked, I discovered Shiané’s blue and swollen body floating on top of the pool’s water. This is the worst nightmare to any parent. My brother, Dylan, dived in and got her out before my mother, Elize started mouth-to-mouth breathing. Dylan then called the emergency services.
"My child had no pulse. Due to the large amount of water in her body, she felt heavy when lifted. Since I am five weeks pregnant, I thought due to the shock that I was going to lose both my children next to that pool.
"I cannot remember a lot of that morning, but I can clearly remember my mother's prayers. At one stage she placed her hands on my daughter’s head praying, ‘Jesus your blood. We need You.’ At that moment, Shiané suddenly started to cough while her pulse returned. God supernaturally intervened and did an absolute miracle. Even the paramedics cannot believe that Shiané did not suffer any brain damage due to the lack of oxygen. We are eternally grateful to God.”
In 1 Peter 2:24 we are reminded that we receive our healing because of Jesus’ wounds on the cross – his blood flowed on our behalf. Also in John 14:12 Jesus says: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” What works did Jesus do? He healed the blind, the deaf could hear, the lame could walk and Jesus even raised the dead.
What happened next to the pool in Brakpan? Elize put her faith into action. She called unto our Almighty God of the universe and reminded Him of His promise of healing. Was He present? Did He touch the little girl with the white hair and blue eyes through His Holy Spirit? I do not doubt it for a moment.
God still works miracles. He is still in control of our lives. And there is certainly still power in the Name of Jesus Christ. God bless.
Father God, thank You that we can cry out to You in difficult times and know that You still do miracles. I bring (name your challenge) to You today and I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ that You will change my situation. Amen.
