BY BENESCKE JANSE VAN RENSBURG

In August this year, Lené van Heerden, a physiotherapist from Pretoria, and her husband, Wilmar, were faced with a choice: Either they install the jungle gym they ordered weeks prior to this day or they cancel it. This decision would demonstrate the depth of their faith in God:

Lené: “In August, our 5-year-old boy, Lukas, together with my father, was in a head-on car accident. Their survival was a miracle. Both were admitted to the ICU. The impact on Lukas' eyes left him blind. To monitor the swelling on his brain, the doctors kept Lukas in an induced coma for a week. Hereafter they started taking him out of it. Due to the strong medication he was hallucinating. To me, as a parent having to look at my child’s withdrawal symptoms was traumatic.

"All we could do was to trust God. We kept on proclaiming His Word and promises. In faith, we posted the promises everywhere in Lukas’s emergency room. Due to the Covid-19 regulations, we could not see Lukas the whole day. It broke my heart because as a mother I wanted to protect my child. During my prayer time I kept on hearing God telling me not to worry about Lukas, as he was with God and He was looking after him.

The call to confirm the installation of the jungle gym came during this time. We were still not sure if Lukas would survive and if he would ever be able to play, jump or climb again. Humanly speaking, to continue with the installation was a stupid idea. Yet for me and my husband, Wilmar, it was a step of faith - a physical sign that we trusted God to heal Lukas completely. We decided to continue with the process.

Shortly after this, a friend of ours helped to convene a prayer event where people all over the world who had already prayed for Lukas, did it together at a specific time. We fought in the spirit. We prayed, took communion, blew rams' horns, and declared that we trusted God for a miracle.

The day after the prayer event, Lukas stopped hallucinating. He was suddenly calm. His sight slowly began to return. His improvement in the days that followed totally exceeded doctors' expectations. The prediction was that Lukas would take 18 months to 2 years to recover, because we decided not to admit him to a rehabilitation institute, but rather take him to the necessary people ourselves.

It is now 3 months later. Lukas' sight is 95% restored. He runs, climbs and plays on the jungle gym we erected as if nothing ever happened to him. And when this 5-year-old boy talks about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we are amazed. Was he in the spirit with God at that time when he was in a coma? I'm convinced of that. God is truly good and we honor Him for the miracle in our lives.”

God saw Lené and Wilmar's step of faith. He also heard the crowd of believers praying for Lukas. In the same way, He hears the prayers of each of us when we pray in faith. In Mark 11:24 we read, Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

God still does miracles. Let’s trust Him for that. God bless.

Father God, thank You that You still do miracles. Strengthen my faith to trust You when a breakthrough seems impossible. Remind me of Your promises. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
