DAY 20: MAKE GOOD DECISIONS - 30 September 2019
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
I want to end the September series with a story I recently read:
A young, dynamic bank clerk had been named the successor to a retired bank manager. Realizing that he would have to fill big footsteps, he walked to the bank manager's office.
“Can I ask you a question?” he began. The bank manager smiled and motioned the young man to sit down. “What did it take to achieve the success you have?” the young man asked. The bank manager immediately replied: “The right decisions.” The young man paused for a moment. “And how did you know what the best decisions would be?” Again, the bank manager quickly replied: “Experience.” The young man looked puzzled, "And how am I going to get this experience to make the right decisions?” The older man smiled when he responded: “Wrong decisions.”
Sometimes we make decisions with confidence. At other times it feels totally overwhelming. However, listen to these three promises:
- James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
- Isaiah 30:21: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
- Jeremiah 33: 3: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Let’s remember that no wrong decision is ever so wrong that God cannot bring something good out of it. He has mercy when we repent. He gives second chances. And He fills us with wisdom when we bow our knees before Him and consult Him before a decision is made. He knows the future. After all, he's already there. God bless.
Father God, thank you for being Almighty and in control of my life and my future. Please guide me (mention area in your life where you need wisdom). I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
