Our Hope is in the Lord - 19 March 2019

“Then I saw a great white throne and the one who sits on it. Earth and heaven fled from his presence and were seen no more.” Revelation 20:11
The Doomsday Clock is a mythical clock. It does not tick but it does reveal how eminent scientists believe how far the world is away from a man-made catastrophe that could wipe out our planet.
The idea of the Doomsday Clock was first mooted in the first edition of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists in June 1947. It displayed a stylized clock on its front cover showing how close humanity was to destroying itself in a nuclear war. The time displayed was seven minutes to midnight.
The Bulletin is still published today. Each year its front cover reveals how close the world is to total obliteration. This year the Doomsday Clock sets the time at two minutes to midnight.
It cites the reasons by identifying three scenarios endangering our world: – the increase in nuclear threat posed by smaller nations, the impact climate change is having on our environment and the false information being generated to downplay the seriousness of climate change.
Genesis states that God looked on his world and it was good. That was before God put man in charge of his creation and we began making a right royal mess of it.
The World Wildlife Fund 2018 Report documents a staggering decline in mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians over the past 40 years. The major threats to the species identified are human activities resulting in habitat loss, depredation and loss of wildlife as a result of overfishing and overhunting. Humans are wreaking havoc over wildlife, forest, oceans and rivers. Our entire ecosystem is under threat.
Well, man certainly has a responsibility before God to clean up his act!
This earth will pass away, the scientists got that right. However, it will not happen at the hand of man but when God determines. Far from being a day of gloom it will be a day of great rejoicing. Then our hope will be realised with the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Listen!” says Jesus. “I am coming soon! I will bring my rewards with me, to give to each one according to what he has done. I am the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 22:12-13
Prayer: Heavenly Father you alone determine our destiny. May the Holy Spirit guide us to be better guardians and carry out the responsibilities entrusted to us. This we ask in Jesus name. Amen
