Day 7: Love is. . . to keep your priorities right - 11 February 2019
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
A successful entrepreneur was recently asked how she manages to keep all the balls in the air. She is a mother, a wife to her husband and a business woman. She answered the question like this: “In our lives there are really only two kinds of balls; rubber balls and glass balls. The rubber balls are balls that, when they fall, have a good change to bounce back. These include work, finances, opportunities, etc. The glass balls on the other hand are extremely precious. They include your family, marriage and loved ones. If they fall, it breaks. The secret to success is to protect your glass balls at all costs. This will keep you happy and successful. ”
What are your priorities like today? Can you comfortably say that God comes first, your spouse second, your children third and then the work? Are there perhaps glass balls on the floor in your life?
In Matthew 6:33 we read: “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” And in Psalm 37: 4-5 we read: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.”
Let us make sure that God is truly our first love in our lives. And may we also never allow a dream we pursue or stress and pressure at work to become so important that we lose what is really precious in our lives. True love is best demonstrated in our priorities. What does yours say about what is important in your life? God bless.
Father God, help me to keep my priorities straight. Show me where I need to make changes before the glass balls in my life land on the floor. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
