Wise men with a vision - 10 December 2018
Hennie Symington
… there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Matthew 2:2 (KJV)
The wise men ‒ we do not know whether they were kings, or astronomers or astrologists – witnessed and extraordinary phenomenon, an unusually bright and beautiful star. They did their research and set out in search of this strange heavenly body - much like Abraham, who many generations before, followed the voice of an unknown and invisible God.
Where Abraham’s vision led his people to the promised land, their vision led them to Bethlehem. (Someone once joked that the wise men had travelled more miles on Christmas cards than they ever travelled to Bethlehem.) It was a long and trying journey of almost 2 500 kilometers with no roads leading them there. But they were not deterred because they had a vision. Where there is vision, people move forward. Abraham proved this and the wise men confirmed it.
What is your vision in life?
Perhaps you have one but do nothing to make it a reality. Follow the wise men's example. They hitched their vision to a star and discovered God.
Prayer:God, sometimes reality gets me down. Give me a vision in my heart and the wisdom to follow the Star that gives life. Amen
