Breathe on me breath of God - 25 July 2018
Hennie Symington
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplatethe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:17
The Holy Spirit who is God’s presence among us makes it possible for us as human beings to be actively engaged in God’s work on earth. Why? Because He takes it personally. He works within the hearts of God’s people making the vision of the kingdom of God, my vision for life. Because the Spirit breathes on us, God’s vision of hope for all becomes my vision of bringing hope to all people.
Equally the suffering of this world becomes my suffering and as such I will do all I can to lessen the pain of those whom God sends across my path, or those I seek out to comfort and support.
The Holy Spirit in a way, is the trouble shooter in the Trinity. He is present where refugees flee with nowhere to go and “angels of mercy” appear in the form of people who stretch out their hands to the suffering.
You are the good Samaritan: He is there when a child loses his way, or a husband goes astray, and mothers and children have nowhere to turn. These angels of mercy do not appear out of the blue. You are the “neighbour” that Christ talks about and by reaching out to the lost and the needy, we play a part in actively bringing the Kingdom of God near and here among us. In a way, it is the Holy Spirit giving wings to the human spirit.
Prayer: Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is despair, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy. Amen
