Day 19: Faith is to find wisdom in God - 27 June 2018
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
Yesterday was International Day against Drug Abuse. During our radio program, we invited listeners to share testimonies of how they or their loved ones was set free from an addiction. One mother shared this powerful message: "My sons struggled for years with a drug dependence. During that time, I prayed that God would change them. However, it was only when I began to pray that God would change me and fill me with wisdom and insight to know how to support them in the best way that I experienced how their lives began to change." Today, both her sons are free from drugs.
Oftentimes, we experience frustrations in our own lives. It may be your spouse spending too much money or being too stingy, a rebellious teenager, a mother-in-law way too involved in your life or even a neighbor not knowing how to mind her own business. Our first response usually is to complain about this person or situation to God, begging Him to change “the other person or situation” instead of asking Him for wisdom and insight to deal with the situation in a better way.
In James 1: 5, we read: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Also in James 3: 17 we read: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”
What areas in your life are causing frustration? When last did you ask God to guide you through His Holy Spirit and to change your mindset? Not only will it cause us to look at that "person" or "situation" with new eyes, it will also enable us to act differently. We might even experience real change for the first time. God bless.
Father God, thank You that I may ask for wisdom about (name the person/situation). Please fill me with wisdom and enable me to look at the person / situation from Your perspective. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
