Day 1: Faith. . . in His ability - 1 June 2018
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
The inside of the house was packed with people. Outside, a crowd had already gathered with excitement. Some people came out of curiosity. Others out of desperation. Still others, with the hope to meet this Teacher personally.
Suddenly there was a loud noise from the roof’s side on the inside of the house, followed by loud banging sounds. With dust falling to the ground, the hole in the roof grew bigger. What was happening? In an instant, four men's faces appeared in the hole, before they lowered a bed with a paralyzed man on top of it at the exact place the Teacher was sitting. It was the only way they could get to Him.
The large crowd of people outside the house did not scare this group of men away. Their hearts were filled with hope and faith and they were not going to leave this house without receiving a miracle from this Teacher. They believed in Him and his ability.
In Luke 5, we read that Jesus was touched by these men’s faith. In verse 24 He says to the paralyzed man, "I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” In that instant, the paralyzed man was healed. He stood up while praising God for this miracle.
This June, I want to focus on the theme: Faith. What are you trusting God for today? Do you also need healing like this man? Perhaps you are trusting God for a spouse, a new job opportunity, your own home, a financial breakthrough, a child or even for the recovery of your marriage? What are you doing while you wait? Are you being put off by the "crowd of people" outside the house? Or is your heart, like these men, filled with faith and confidence that God can do a miracle? Remember, God sees the faith in our hearts. If we trust Him completely, we might just receive what we believe. God bless.
Father God, thank you very much that nothing is impossible for you. Forgive me for times of disbelief and fill my heart with renewed hope and faith. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
