Connected! - 3 April 2018

“In the beginning, when God created the universe, the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the power of God was moving over the water.” Genesis 1:1-2 (GNT)
Total darkness - nothing else - was enshrouding the roaring ocean. But God!
Only His eyes could pierce that primeval murkiness to see the shapeless, barren earth flooded by those wild waters. Only He knew what He would do with the chaos at the beginning of time. Imagine what amazing power He summoned, to “cover (Himself) with light” (Psalm 104:2) and fashion these raw materials of immense proportions to create the miraculous and breathtaking results which we see in our world today.
His very act of creation was an act of love as He prepared for the object and pinnacle of it, us! He was intentional and tender in His planning; making sure that everything would be perfect - as human parents since then have done in preparing for their anticipated baby. He set the standard. After He had created man, “God looked at everything he had made, and he was very pleased.” (Genesis 1:31)
God created each of us uniquely. He has a plan for each one and our potential is unlimited when we realise whose likeness is upon us. We have His creativity in us in our ability to imitate Him. He is as intrinsically connected to us, as we are to our earthly parents. Not everyone is a Michelangelo, a Walt Disney, a Charlize Theron or a Steve Jobs, but, we are all people created in God’s image. And like Him, we love to put our stamp on our own creations, even if they’re only useful contraptions we engineer in times of need, or our best dish to feed our families!
But we need to connect to Him. If we don’t pay enough attention to the big picture and to who God is, we delude ourselves in thinking that we are wonderfully gifted people and that our talents are merely part of our natural intelligence. We become arrogant and forget, to our own detriment, the importance of our Creator. In a world always looking for new and more efficient ways to connect to one another with a better Smartphone, or a faster Wi-Fi connection, someone has said that prayer is the best wireless connection to God. Have we discovered that? God says: “Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvellous things that you know nothing about.”(Jeremiah 33:3)
Being connected is what it’s all about.
Prayer: Wonderful Creator, thank you for forming me in Your image and for inviting me to know You better. Help me to understand the importance of connecting to You so that I may hear Your voice and know Your amazing ways. Amen.
