Eleventh article: I believe in the resurrection of the body - 27 February 2018

For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.... After that, we who are still alive and are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:14,17
When we encounter the phrase, "the resurrection of the body",as with an earlier phrase, "born of the virgin Mary", we are at a loss for answers. Our post-modernistic minds struggle with these realities of faith. However, if we can accept that God created all from nothing (“creatione ex nihilo”) then our faith also empowers us to accept that rising from the dead is as great a miracle as creation of life itself.
Likewise, any attempt to interpret the resurrection of the body in symbolic or spiritual terms, robs it of meaning. We are told in no uncertain terms that Jesus who was buried in the flesh and whose body decayed as any human body would, was made alive through a miraculous act of God. Likewise, in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 we are assured that at the end of time, when God returns, our earthly bodies will be resurrected into full glory.
Prayer: Lord, we are eagerly looking forward to the resurrection of our bodies at the end of time when you will take us to be with you for all eternity. Amen
