Day 10: Fearless in challenging moments - 14 November 2017
Benescke Janse van Rensburg
On Friday morning, during peak traffic, Amanda Fojo, a Cape Town traffic police officer, was busy issuing a fine to a taxi driver, when another motorist signaled for help. When Amanda got to the lady’s car, she realized that the woman was in labor. The motorist asked Amanda to accompany her to the hospital.
When Amanda evaluated the labor process, she realized that they would not make it to the hospital. She fetching a clean shirt from her car, and helped the lady in labor to the back of her car. She then sent away all men to make the lady more comfortable while assisting her to deliver a healthy baby boy – right there next to the road.
To the question of how Amanda managed to act so calmly and stay in control amidst all this commotion, she replied: “God gave me wisdom. It was as if He was there right next to me. All I could do, was pray, pray and pray!" After the delivery, the paramedics arrived at the scene and took the mother and baby to the hospital.
Amanda Fojo did not expect to become an instant midwife, delivering a baby, when she woke up on Friday morning. In the same way, we sometimes encounter stressful situations and challenges without any warning. An illness, the loss of a loved one, a challenge at work, in your marriage or with a child. During those moments, we can easily become paralyzed with fear or we can remember who God is and pray for wisdom like Amanda did next to the road.
In 1 Chronicles 16:11 we read: “Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him." In His presence, there is wisdom, peace and tranquility. Also in Proverbs 3: 6, we read: “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” And in James 1: 5, it is written, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking."
Was God's Holy Spirit with Amanda in the car next to the busy road on Friday morning? I am convinced of it. Let’s call out to God in our moments of need, knowing that He sees the end of the beginning and that He can fill us with wisdom and peace to handle the most challenging situations in the best way possible. God bless.
Father God, thank you for hearing and answering my prayers. Please fill me today with wisdom and guide me on the right path. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
