Day 16: God knows when the world will end - 22 September 2017
By Benescke Janse van Rensburg
Will the world come to an end today, tomorrow or on Sunday? Some people predict that. Over the past few days, I've seen various video’s go viral on social media of people believing they could predict the day the world would end. Some were quite convincing.
Looking at the amount of floods, hurricanes and earthquakes around the world over the last few weeks, it is not difficult to understand why so many people follow and share these video’s. It indeed seems as if we are living in the end times. And to make matters worse, natural disasters are one of the signs Jesus gave in Matthew 24, that we can look out for to know that the end of the world is here.
Likewise, Jesus said that there would be rumors of wars, an increase of famine and disease, an increase in false prophets, a decrease in morality and signs in the stars (Matthew 24 and Luke 21). We see all these things happening, so what are we supposed to do?
The most important thing, is to realize once again who the One is that we worship. In Mark 13:32 we read: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." And in Isaiah 46: 9-10, God himself speaks, "I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure. . .”
God knows exactly what He will do next. It is important to remember that He created all people to be in a relationship with Him and He does not want to see any person be lost for an eternity.
With these rumors that the end of the world is here, we have one of two options: We can either begin to live in fear about what lays ahead for us, or we can deliberately commit ourselves to pray and reach out more to our friends and loved ones who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus Christ. All we can take with us to heaven is people. Let’s make sure our loved ones will go with us. God bless.
Father God, thank you for being in control of the universe and also my life. Help me to be an instrument in your hands and to reach out to people around me that do not yet know you. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
- Assignment: Let’s make a list of all our loved ones and friends who are not yet in a relationship with God. Let us pray every day that God will touch them through His Holy Spirit to come to salvation. This is the greatest gift you can give anyone.
