Day 13: God forgives unconditionally - 19 September 2017
Benescke Janse van Rensburg
One day a priest heard that a woman claimed that God appeared to her personally. He was very skeptical and decided to pay the woman a visit. "When God appears to you again," he said, "ask Him to tell you my secret sin which only He knows about." By doing this, the priest wanted to prove that the old lady was lying.
A month later, the priest returned to the woman. "Madam," the priest began, "did you ask God to tell you of my secret sin?" The woman nodded. "I have." The priest was terrified. "And what did He say?" The old woman smiled. “He said: ‘What sin? Tell the priest, once I forgive a sin, I forget it.”
It is true. If we truly repent of our sins and ask God for forgiveness, He forgives us and He does not think about it again. Just listen to His words in Isaiah 43:25: “I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.” Also in Hebrews 10:17 we read, “I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.” And in Psalm 103: 12 we read: “As far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us.”
Even though God forgives us unconditionally, the enemy will constantly remind us of a past transgression in order to rob us of our self-confidence and to prevent a life in abundance. Let us recognize any attack from the enemy while reminding ourselves of what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross. And let us be bold and ask God to enable us to show the same kind of mercy and unconditional forgiveness towards those who might have hurt us in the past. This truly breaks the hold of the enemy on our lives. God bless.
Father God, thank you for Your complete forgiveness in my life. Please help me to be able to forgive others so I can experience complete freedom in my life. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
- Assignment: Consider these words by Charles H Spurgeon: "Let's go to Calvary to see how we were forgiven. But let's take some time there to learn to forgive others. Then let us look upwards to our Father to learn how to forget what was forgiven."
