When our vision fails us - 10 March 2017

What has been will be again… Ecclesiastes 1:9
Do we need to share the cynical view of the Preacher in Ecclesiastes? Is it true that there is nothing new on this earth? Is it true that what is said has been said a thousand-million times over by wise men through the ages?
I don’t know, but one thing I do know is that as humans we all suffer from the same condition: we are spiritually short-sighted and genetically forgetful, and in tough times when health, money, friendship or our marriages are not looking good we may wonder what is God’s plan for me. Where is He taking me? What does He want from me? Why is He doing this to me? Who am I and where am I going?
These questions seldom arise during good times. We just take the good times for granted. Only later do we see God makes us beautiful through all the trials, and difficult circumstances in life. It is often during the tough seasons that we grow most intensely in our character. It is difficult to grow spiritually in seasons of pure prosperity. Maybe this is one reason why God ordains seasons in our lives, where we have to struggle and where things do not come easily.
Prayer: Lord we confess that much of our lives is spent chasing after wind while what truly matters passes unnoticed. Please open up our souls to your eternal presence in our lives. Amen
