DAY 9: I AM. . . interested in the foundation - 13 February 2017
Benescke Janse van Rensburg
Years ago when I started working, I lived in an apartment with a beautiful view of the Stellenbosch mountains. It was not long before construction of a new block of flats right in front of our block started. Even though it was quite disappointing as it would eventually partially block our view, I found the building process quite interesting. With each new level added to the building, they worked hard to set the foundation. Apart from the cables and metal structures, they had to set the foundation with cement which meant they at times had to work right through the night to get it right. The foundation of each new level of a building project is extremely important as it determines the weight it would be able to carry of what is to come.
The same is true for our lives. Because God knows our future, He takes special interest in our character. To Him, our character is more important than our comfort as He wants to ensure our character is strong enough to handle pressure, but also fortune and that it would not be harmful in the end. Therefore before He lifts us to the next level, He will test our foundation (character). Abraham and Sarah knew that "awkward, difficult season" well as they waited years to have their own baby. Joseph spent years in prison. Job lost everything and Daniel faced hungry lions if he dared bow down and pray to God.
In all the above-mentioned seasons, these people had to stand the test of faith and character. Because they did, I AM gave Abraham and Sarah the baby she longed for. Joseph was promoted from prisoner to second-in-command of Egypt in one day. Job got twice the fame and fortune he once had and I AM locked the hungry lions' mouths so Daniel did not die in the lion's den.
In Psalm 105:19 we read: "Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph's character." In Hebrew 6:11 we read: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
Are you experiencing an "uncomfortable, difficult season" in your life? Perhaps due to a difficult employer or colleagues in the workplace? Perhaps due to your health? Maybe you are also longing for a child or spouse of your own or praying for your husband or wife's salvation? Remember, I AM knows everything and He hears every prayer you pray. Let's pass the character test and keep the faith. He might be strengthening your foundation for maybe the biggest breakthrough you have ever experienced. Keep the faith. God bless.
Father God, thank You that my well-being is important to you. Please help me not to lose my faith in the hard times but to stand firm in faith, remembering that You know my future. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
ASSIGNMENT: What is uncomfortable and difficult in your life at the moment? Do you still trust God to change it? Ask God to strengthen you by His Holy Spirit to stand the test of your character.
