Why I like God

Danny Fourie

We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19

One often reads in magazines how the path of two people's love story developed and progressed. Where some people realize from the first meeting that they both feel attracted to each other, there are those where love initially only comes from one side. In this way you will find that the one person regularly sends SMSes, WhatsApps or cards, like in the old days, and the receiver resignedly accept them. The one that takes the initiative apparently has the firm intention to win the love of the other. One of them has lost his or her heart and has no intention to let the other one go.

It often happens that the one, who perseveres, is awarded. The other one gradually comes under the spell of love directed for some time on him or her and before long the spark returns. Then there is nothing to stop it and the mutual love culminates in a special relationship.

Often this is also the case with our relationship with God. Probably you know God, thanks to your parents or someone close to you, but maybe you do not have a close relationship with God. God is like the example of the amorous person above. But God does not direct himself to one person only but to all of us.

In each passage in the Bible God allows us to see how much he likes us. From the first time I started reading the Bible, I got confirmation that God indeed likes me. It made me curious. Who is he? How deep is his love for me?

Little by little one finds answers to these questions. It also makes me say that I like God. Every day I am busy with the search for God. And he or she, who seeks God, will – in Jesus' own words – find God.

God is constantly busy in your life to declare his love for you. I hope that it will ignite a spark in you during this month too – perhaps for the first time, or for a surprising second or third or tenth time.

Prayer: Thank you Lord that you first loved me, loved me from the beginning of my life. Change my heart that I can respond to your love. Amen.
