Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5,6

Christianity does not in the first place consist of a lot of rules and laws we have to obey. That as well, but in essence Christianity is all about a relationship with Jesus. So if you choose to live for God, you will also want to listen to him and do his will. The question is: How do you know what God wants and what he approves?

Some say I let myself be guided by habit. My parents and their parents did it like this and therefore I am doing it like this. Others let them be guided by the majority: Everyone does it this way, why should I do otherwise? As Christians, we have a different tool to help us with our choices in life. It is the Bible.

The Bible helps us in many ways to solve our questions and choices. But sometimes the Bible is not clear about certain things, simply because it did not exist then. When the Corinthians could not determine from the Bible whether they were allowed to eat meat sacrificed to an idol or not, Paul's advice was: “Do it all for the glory of God.” (see 1 Corinthians 10)

So if we do not know how, the Lord will always grant us the wisdom through prayer: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you,” says the Lord in Psalm 32:8.

It is not always easy to do what the Lord wants us to do. But once we have chosen to live for God, we would want to be obedient to the Lord in our choices.

God, who laid down the rules of life for us, know what is best for us. He made us. He also knows what kind of life suits us best.

Prayer: Lord, help me to honour you by living life according to the rules that you gave us. Amen
