Jesus said, ‘For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.’   John 9:39

Jesus healed a blind man on the Sabbath. The Pharisees were upset that he again used the Sabbath to help someone. They questioned the man and later his parents. They argued with each other about who Jesus might be.  Some Pharisees began to say that nobody could do these miracles if he was a "sinner", but only if God listens to him.

Jesus later meets the blind man who could now see again and confronted him with the question: "Do you believe in the Son of Man" (Jesus often referred to himself in these terms).  Jesus reveals to this man who he really is and we read that the man worshipped him (v37-38).  It is important to realise that a Jew would not worship a man, but only God. The fact that the man worshipped Jesus confirms that he is God.

Thereafter Jesus changed the definition of blindness, the blind man who sees who Jesus really is, is not blind.  The Pharisees who refuse to recognise who Jesus is, are actually blind.

So many times we are blind to the reality of God's presence with us. Then we are like the Pharisees who could not see beyond the superficial and the material. However, the Lord through the Holy Spirit can help and lead us so that our eyes will be opened, and we can see with eyes of faith who He is and that He is with us.

May God heal our blindness, so that we can freely testify to this miracle - that we can really see.

Prayer: Thank you Lord that you touch me by the working of your Spirit and your Word. Thank you for the light that your Word brings into my life, so that I can be healed of my spiritual blindness and that I can see you in my life. Help me to witness with joy to this miracle, that those who are still seeking can find you. Amen
