Connection: Interrupt your program - 17 June 2014
Carina Francke
Scripture: Ephesians 2:10: For we are God’s handiwork (His workmanship),recreated in Christ Jesus, that we may do those good works which God predestined for us that we should walk in them."
Pressure at work, packed schedules, social commitments and an unhealthy relationship with social media leave little time and energy to be man to God and other people. If your program resembles the above description you are wasting your life. In the words of John Boykin, "Time is life and what you do with your hours and days is what you do with your life.”
You see, as believers we were recreated in Christ "that we may do those good works which God predestined for us that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10). Of course we have to work and we also need to relax and socialize, but never at the cost of the purpose that we were created for. When we become man to another, we give a face to the grace of God. "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in it’s various forms."(1 Peter 4:10)
Jesus understood His purpose on earth - to be Man for people and to serve them. On His way to lay hands on a dying little girl He did not hesitate for one moment to break His journey when He sensed that power flowed from Him. Someone in the crowd had a need, therefor He shifted His attention for that moment to that person - a desperate woman who yearned for healing. When the woman with the issue of blood stood before Him, He not only healed her physically but He also freed her from despair and fear,“Daughter, your faith has made you well, Go in peace and be healed of your affliction." (Mark 5:34)
Only then He continued His journey in response to the first request - to resurrect the sick little girl who by this time had already died.
So very often we let the now-moments with people slip through our fingers because we are too busy making our own programs and time schedules work. We become insensitive to the Lord's perfect timing when He allows people to cross our path, so that we can be His person to them; so that we can serve people with the gifts we received from Him, thus administering His grace in it's various forms.
Prayer: Giver of all good gifts, let my program and use of my time never stand separated from You. Give ears to my heart so that I do not miss Your involvement in the interruption of my schedule. Amen
