We can pray because we are God’s children

Quintus Heine

There are three reasons why we as children of God have the privilege to pray to God and why we can expect an answer from him. Today we look at the first reason: Because we are his child and we have a relationship with him.

Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."

To ask God for something in prayer is obviously not the main reason why we pray, but the Lord still invites us to go to him with our needs. There are three very good biblical reasons for expecting God to answer our prayers. Today we look at the first reason: We are children of God.

Our relationship with Jesus is the foundation of our prayers. You cannot have a prayer relationship with Christ if you are not his child. Because we are God's children, we also have the privileges that parents usually give their children. Children can go to their parents with anything. They can share their problems and their crises with them any time they want to. They can also share their joys with their parents. Children in a good relationship with their parents do not fear their parents. They know their parents love them and want only the best for them. To be a child of God gives us the confidence to ask anything of the Lord. Is it not wonderful that we have a heavenly Father to whom we can go with anything, at any time?

Fathers give good gifts to their children. So too God wants to give his children gifts. The fact that you and I are children of Jesus, gives us the privilege to ask him questions and expect an answer. Therefore, we start the Lord's Prayer with the words: "Our Father." He is our Heavenly Father and we are his children. This gives us certain privileges. God will always answer us, maybe not with the answer we want, but we will receive an answer.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that I can ask anything of you because you are my Heavenly Father and I am your child. Amen
